EDIT: This girl is lookin' for a way to earn extra moolah! O: No past job experience (how in the heck do you GET past job experience?!?!), no driver's license (not even a learner's permit), BUT I am polite and a quick-learner. And, being home-schooled, I can work funky hours. I am sixteen (seventeen in February) and I would prefer a job with a good work environment. I have no idea what I would do. I'm looking into HotTopic for employment options (best benefits EVER) since there's a store near me. Maybe they could use some help during the holiday season. I am a complete newb at the job scene but I LEARN QUICKLY. I suppose I could always be a bagger at Von's. I don't need good pay, I'd just like pay period. I'd rather like a job where a small, cute, teenaged girl would have a low chance of being harassed but I'm not TOO choosey. I'll check out the local mall, too. I could always work in the stockroom of JCPenny or something.

I don't think I've talked much about my music (or I've said too much. Hrmm...). Or my flute. So now I am and the pros of said instrument.

I've been playing flute for about seven years now. I started in fourth grade and I've been taking private lessons every week from my amazing teachers (I <3 you Miss K!). I played in a college community band for two semesters and I've gotten flute gigs in accompanying various church choirs through my music teacher.


You flute players or wannabes out there: IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE DOING A LOT OF PLAYING, WEAR ABSORBENT DARK PANTS. Spit WILL ooze out the end of your flute. Hey, I think it's better than a spit valve on a trumpet. D:< So when you rest the bottom of your flute against your leg... yeah. Black corduroy pants are THE way to go.

Why you should play flute: There are a lot of sucky flute players out there. Maybe it's just me, but I think the flute requires a LOT of discipline. It's almost like a martial with how you have to control your breathing. You SHOULD learn to be very conscious about the quality of your notes as you are a naturally shrill instrument and require a lot of control to get a truly beautiful note out. Not to mention the bizarre things you can do with a flute. You get sharp, exact notes through "tongue"ing. You basically go "TUH" acrcoss the mouthpieace. And "double-tongue"ing is the same, only faster, and you say "taka". And "flutter tongue"ing is even WEIRDER because it let's out this sort of BUZZING sound. Imagine a hummingbird's wings, and then imagine a flute imitating that noise. For an example, look up a good rendition of "flight of the bumblebee" on youtube.

Serious players get flat. Abs. From playing flute, I kid you not, you get a killer flat stomach from playing flute seriously. And some very swift, slim fingers. Also, your ability to recite tongue-twisters will improve. Bizarre, but true. Your posture should also improve as well as your ability to hold your breath and to sing.

So go learn an instrument. Any instrument. It's good character-building and I think it improves the state of the human soul. Just saying.
